28 Day Zentangle Challenge

Fall is fast approaching and it seems like a great time to take on a creative challenge to get ready for holiday making. Zentangle is the perfect launching point for creative holiday decorating and gift making.

With that in mind I would like to challenge you to 28 days of Zentangling!

The challenge will begin on the full moon; Thurs. August 18th, 2016.

No limits; it is all up to you and your time limits and creativity. You may want to begin a big project and work on it a little bit every day for the next 28 days.

Or if your tangling pens have taken a long vacation and you can only handle a small area of one tile every day, then that’s the best approach for you. Perhaps you will start out tangling one section at a time and then burst into creative exploration.

If you want your 28 day challenge to involve something other than completing tiles be sure to explore this blog for ideas and inspiration. There are also lots of inspiring ideas on the ZenniaTangle Facebook page as well as many other places on the web. Please like, follow and share while you are there.

This might be a good opportunity to get together with other tanglers for social fun and inspiration.

The idea behind this challenge is to inspire and of course enjoy the mindful relaxing experience that Zentangle provides. The joy of Zentangle is that it can travel anywhere so that one may take just a few minutes, if that is all that is available, to drop out of the drama and into the relaxing process of Zentangle, one stroke at a time.

If you choose to participate please let me know. You may want to comment here about your progress, email or comment on Facebook. I’d love to hear from you and see where this challenge leads you. If I get enough response I will create a challenge link on this blog where you can see how others are responding to this challenge.

Happy Tangling!!!

Valentine ATC Swap

We are excited to announce our 2015 Valentine ATC Swap

Sample Valentine ATC's

Sample Valentine ATC’s

Remember the anticipation and fun in receiving Valentines?

Basically, you mail us 3 and you get 3 back. You must include a self-addressed envelop with postage affixed to it. We are not responsible for extra postage needed.

The rules: It needs to have Zentangle on it. It needs to have Valentine as its theme. It can be black and white or any other color combination. The size is 2.5″ x 3.5″. If you do not know what an ATC (Artist Trading Card) is, Google it…… there are lots of websites to explain it. If you desire, we have Zentangle ATCs made from Tiepolo paper to purchase, or you can cut these out yourself using appropriate paper to Zentangle. Please go to the Gallery section of our blog to see some past Valentine ATCs. Scroll down below the eggs to see the Valentines we swapped last year.

On the back put your name. You might also want to list the tangles you used, and/or put an inspirational quote or message.

The deadline for us to receive the cards is February 10th so we will have them in time to send you 3 by the 14th.

You must let us know you want to participate by January 30th by sending an email to ZenniaTangle. Use Valentine ATC Swap in the subject box. Thanks! We’ll let you know where to send your Valentine ATCs at that time.

Seasonal Tangled Treats

TangledPumplin

When I saw the bin of white pumpkins at our local farmer’s market they all seemed to be whispering to me, “Tangle me.” We’ve been exploring with grid pattern tangles so I bought a pumpkin and spent a couple of evenings on it. I had to do one side at a time because the ink would smear when I touched it, even when dry. I spray varnished side 1 before beginning side 2, and then spray varnished the entire pumpkin when I was finished tangling. I used a Sakura Pigma® Graphic 1 pen. This is a relatively new pen that we carry now. If you are one of our tanglers you can get the the pen from ZenniaTangle. You can also get it here.

Skulls&Pumps

Skulls2

These pumpkins and skulls started out as papier mâché purchased from Michael’s. I painted them with gesso and then tangled them with the same Sakura Pigma® Graphic 1 pen. The color pens were borrowed from my daughter and I don’t recall the maker. They were the same size as the black pen and worked quite well, although I do not believe they are archival ink like the sakura pens.

Meet-Up & RAZ

We had a great time at the Upper Crust in Chico a couple of weeks ago. We invited our Facebook friends to join us for an hour or so of drawing and sharing. As a group we created 5 completed Zentangle® tiles and we gave 3 of them to the Upper Crust servers who were delighted with their small treasures. We are calling this Random Act of Zentangle or RAZ. Giving away our beautiful tiles felt wonderful and we can’t wait to do it again. I forgot to take a picture of the tiles but I remembered just before I started to drive away. I ran back in and was able to borrow 2 of the tiles back for a quick photo.

Upper-Crust

We are having another Meet-up next week on Tues. at the T-Bar on Vallombrosia Ave. at 1:00 p.m.

A Meet-up is not a Zentangle® class but rather an opportunity to meet local tanglers and share the mindful art of Zentangle® with our community. Everyone is welcome even if you have never taken a class from us before. Bring a friend and come to learn why we are excited to share Zentangle®.

We will select a different location every time so it is also an opportunity to explore the different lunch and coffee shops in our area. We will bring our enthusiasm for the fun of Zentangle® and product for those in need of new materials. We hope that you will bring something to share and your drawing materials so we can draw and create together. If you are not a tangler we will share materials with you.

box-after

Look for the table with our green Zentangle® box and you will know you are in the right place. Even if you only have time to say a quick hello, we hope you will seek us out on Tues. at the T-Bar.

We will forever be amazed at the unique ways that each tangler interprets a tangle as well as the choices they make in creating an overall design. We learn as much as we teach and that is the joy of teaching.
