When I saw the bin of white pumpkins at our local farmer’s market they all seemed to be whispering to me, “Tangle me.” We’ve been exploring with grid pattern tangles so I bought a pumpkin and spent a couple of evenings on it. I had to do one side at a time because the ink would smear when I touched it, even when dry. I spray varnished side 1 before beginning side 2, and then spray varnished the entire pumpkin when I was finished tangling. I used a Sakura Pigma® Graphic 1 pen. This is a relatively new pen that we carry now. If you are one of our tanglers you can get the the pen from ZenniaTangle. You can also get it here.
These pumpkins and skulls started out as papier mâché purchased from Michael’s. I painted them with gesso and then tangled them with the same Sakura Pigma® Graphic 1 pen. The color pens were borrowed from my daughter and I don’t recall the maker. They were the same size as the black pen and worked quite well, although I do not believe they are archival ink like the sakura pens.
